['juːnjən paɪp, englisch] die, -/-s, seit dem 18. Jahrhundert in Irland verbreitete, hoch technisierte Sackpfeife, die wegen ihrer komplizierten Spieltechnik ausschließlich im Sitzen gespielt werden kann. Dabei wird die Luft durch einen Blasebalg (statt einer Blaspfeife) in den Sack geleitet, die Pfeifen liegen schräg auf den Knien des Spielers. Die U.-P. hat eine Melodiepfeife (7+1 Grifflöcher) mit Doppelrohrblatt sowie drei gedackte Bordune mit Aufschlagzungen. Darüber hinaus sind drei weitere gedackte Bordunpfeifen (englisch regulators) mit Doppelrohrblättern vorhanden. Die Regulatoren haben vier beziehungsweise fünf Grifflöcher, die alle mit Klappen versehen sind und mit dem Handballen beziehungsweise den gerade unbeschäftigten Fingern betätigt werden. Dadurch lassen sich der Melodieraum erweitern oder unabhängige Begleitstimmen ausführen.
